Assessment and Progress

At Rowde Primary Academy, assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning. It helps our teachers understand what children know, what they can do and what they need to learn next. Most importantly, assessment enables us to adapt teaching so that every child is appropriately supported, challenged and encouraged to achieve their very best.

We believe that assessment should support learning, not drive it. It is used to celebrate success, identify next steps and remove barriers to learning, ensuring that every child can learn, grow and flourish.

How do we assess learning?

Assessment happens every day in every classroom. Our teachers continually observe learning, ask thoughtful questions, review pupils' work and provide feedback that helps children improve. This ongoing assessment allows teachers to respond quickly to misconceptions and adapt learning to meet the needs of the class.

Alongside this day-to-day assessment, pupils complete a range of end-of-unit and standardised assessments throughout the year. These help teachers monitor progress over time and ensure that every child is making strong progress through our carefully planned curriculum.

No single assessment tells us everything about a child's learning. Instead, teachers use a range of evidence alongside their professional judgement to build a complete picture of each pupil's attainment and progress.

Keeping Parents Informed

We work closely with families to ensure parents understand how their child is progressing.

Parents receive:

• an interim report in Terms 2 and 4;
• an annual written report at the end of the academic year;
• two Parents' Evenings each year, with additional meetings where appropriate.

As always, we operate an open-door approach and encourage parents to speak to their child's teacher whenever they have questions or would like to discuss their child's learning.
