Online Safety
At Rowde C of E Primary Academy, we believe that helping children to become confident, responsible and respectful digital citizens is an important part of preparing them for life in the modern world. Guided by our vision to Learn, Grow and Love, we are committed to developing the knowledge, skills and confidence pupils need to use technology safely, responsibly and positively.
Online safety is an integral part of school life and is woven throughout our curriculum, safeguarding procedures and Personal Development offer. Through regular teaching, open discussion and strong partnerships with families, we help children understand both the opportunities and responsibilities of living in an increasingly digital world.
Online safety is embedded throughout school life and is taught as part of both our Computing and PSHE curricula. We use the nationally recognised Project Evolve toolkit alongside the Teach Computing curriculum and Jigsaw PSHE programme. Every Computing lesson begins with an age-appropriate online safety discussion, allowing children to revisit key messages regularly while responding to current technologies and emerging online risks.
Throughout the year, we celebrate national initiatives such as Safer Internet Day, providing additional opportunities for children to explore current online issues and develop the critical thinking skills they need to stay safe in an ever-changing digital world.
Our online safety curriculum also responds to children's experiences. Through regular discussions and pupil voice, we ensure that learning reflects the technologies, apps and online challenges children are encountering, making it relevant and meaningful.
Keeping Children Safe Online at School
All devices and internet access within school are protected by filtering and monitoring systems designed to reduce the risk of children accessing inappropriate or harmful content. While no filtering system can ever be completely foolproof, all online learning is carefully supervised by staff, who follow robust safeguarding procedures and online safety guidance.
We recognise that no filtering system can replace education, which is why children are taught how to make safe, informed and responsible choices whenever they are online.

Supporting Online Safety at Home
We know that parents and carers play a vital role in helping children stay safe online. The internet provides incredible opportunities for learning, creativity and communication, but it is important that children are supported to navigate the online world safely and responsibly.
We know that technology changes quickly, and keeping children safe online is most effective when schools and families work together. Throughout the year we support parents and carers by:
- Share online safety advice through our weekly newsletter.
- Celebrate national online safety campaigns.
- Offer parent workshops and information sessions.
- Signpost trusted organisations offering expert guidance.

Advice For Parents Online Safety
Talking to Your Child About Life Online
One of the best ways to keep children safe is to have regular, open conversations about their online experiences. Regular conversations don't need to be long or formal. Making online safety part of everyday family life helps children feel confident talking to trusted adults if something worries them.
You could ask questions such as:
- Which websites, apps or games do you enjoy using, and why?
- What do you do to keep yourself safe online?
- What information is safe to share online, and what should stay private?
- Do you know how to block or report someone if something makes you feel uncomfortable?
- Who would you speak to if something online worried or upset you?
- Is there something you'd like to teach me about the technology you use?
Creating a culture where children feel comfortable talking about their online experiences is one of the most effective ways to help keep them safe.
