Safeguarding
Rowde Academy recognises its legal and moral duty to promote the well-being of children and keep them safe. School Policies at Rowde Academy are robust and applied by all members of our community and are readily accessible to all members of our community via the policy section on our school website.
Our children have the right to protection – regardless of age, gender, race, culture or disability. They have a right to be safe in our school. We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. We have a strong culture of safeguarding at Rowde where children know they are valued and will be listened to. We also teach our children how to keep themselves safe through our PSHE and Computing curriculum and additional opportunities such as: collective worship, visits from the emergency services, bikeability, canal and river safety workshops. We teach about being safe online every term through our Computing curriculum and send useful information to parents weekly through our newsletter. You can see how safeguarding and consent are taught through our Jigsaw PSHE programme on the document below:
Safeguarding and Consent through Jigsaw PSHEWe have several members of staff who have undertaken specialist training and take on the roles of Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Safeguarding Lead (i.e. to deal with safeguarding and child protection concerns). Whole school training is given to all staff annually and staff receive some safeguarding training and information weekly - it is the most important thing we do. This may be the statutory training or training around current initiatives in safeguarding. All new staff have induction training in safeguarding and the Single Central Record (SCR) is updated to reflect this.
