School Houses

Here at Rowde we have a House System, and this helps to foster and develop a sense of community and belonging within our school. We have four houses:  Red, Yellow, Green and Blue.

Children are allocated a house when they start at the school. Each long term, the House name will be represented by a famous person, place or organisation (for example a charity). This is to inspire the children and teach them more about our planet and the significant achievements of individuals across different aspects of society.

House points are used within the school to reward good behaviour. It should be a strong motivator for children to behave both in and out of class. Any member of staff within the school has the right to award house points.

House points could be awarded for the following things:

• Excellent standard of work relative to the child.
• Demonstrating any word from the school's vision.
• Embodying the school rules at any time.

Children collect points on cards: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond.  They work to complete each card in turn and by the time they finish they will have collected 130 points. 

We aim to be consistent in the quantity of house points we distribute throughout the school. We recognise that if siblings in different classes are on vastly different cards children could become disengaged and parents may also question the validity of the system.

When children have completed a house point card, they should take it to the office. In the Friday celebration Collective Worship, they will come to the front of the school to receive their certificate as well as adding points to their house point total.

On Sports Day, winners also add points to their house point total.

House points are totalled 3 times a year, with the winning house achieving the House Cup. They will then receive a treat as a house at the end of the term.
